Anthropic priced Fable 5.1 cache hits below Fable 5

Anthropic released Fable 5.1 on September 1, 2026. Fable 5.1 cache hits cost $0.25 per million tokens, compared with $1.00 for Fable 5. These are different models, not a same-model historical price cut.

Base input remains $10.00 and output remains $50.00 per million tokens. Cache write prices are unchanged. The lower figure applies only to cache hits on Fable 5.1.

10 million cache-hit tokens cost $10.00 on Fable 5 or $2.50 on Fable 5.1, a $7.50 difference.

Who This Affects
API teams with stable, repeated prompt context. Benchmark Fable 5.1 quality and cache-hit rates before moving production traffic. This API comparison does not imply a Claude subscription sticker-price change.
Official sources: Anthropic's API release notes establish the September 1 release; its current API pricing supports current model-specific rates. The comparison is between two models, not a same-model historical price cut.

xAI scheduled a quality image endpoint retirement

xAI posted the retirement notice on September 2, 2026. grok-imagine-image-quality retires November 2, 2026 and redirects to grok-imagine-image-2.0 with quality low.

The replacement is $0.01 per image cheaper at every resolution. Absolute old and replacement prices are unavailable from the reviewed notice, so no absolute before-and-after amount is shown.

For 100 images at the same resolution, the replacement costs $1.00 less than the retiring endpoint. This is a relative saving, not the total image bill.

Who This Affects
Developers calling the retiring quality endpoint. Test output quality and update the model ID before November 2. Use the verified per-image difference for savings estimates; check the current rate card before budgeting the total bill.
Official source: xAI's dated image-quality endpoint migration notice. The notice supports the retirement, redirect, quality setting, and $0.01 relative saving, but not absolute old and replacement prices; those remain intentionally withheld.

Suno download limits took effect

Suno announced the policy on August 10, 2026, and it took effect September 3, 2026. Pro includes 20 downloads per month and Premier includes 60 downloads per month. Premier subscribers using Suno Studio have no download limit.

Free users who joined before September 3 can receive up to 7 lifetime trial downloads for noncommercial use. Free users who joined on or after September 3 may receive occasional trial downloads, but 7 are not guaranteed.

Add-on purchase prices and prior download limits remain unverified. The policy changes access limits, not a verified subscription sticker price.

A 25-download month exceeds Pro by 5 and fits within Premier with 35 downloads remaining.

Who This Affects
Suno users who export songs rather than only creating or listening. Compare your monthly download count with the included limit before choosing a plan.
Official source: Suno's dated download-policy announcement, announced August 10, 2026 and effective September 3, 2026. Add-on prices and prior limits are excluded because they were not verified.
Switch Watch

Three actions tied directly to this week's evidence.

Benchmark

Measure Fable 5.1 cache hits

Test quality and real cache-hit volume. The supported rate difference is $0.75 per million cache-hit tokens between the two models.

Migrate

Replace the xAI endpoint

Move off grok-imagine-image-quality before November 2 and review whether quality low meets your needs.

Count

Audit Suno downloads

Check the last three months of exports against 20 on Pro and 60 on Premier before changing plans.

Method: official release, migration, pricing, and policy materials establish dates, rates, limits, and eligibility. Unsupported historical amounts, prior limits, and add-on prices are left unavailable rather than estimated.
