OpenAI temporarily cuts GPT-5.6 Sol standard API rates

OpenAI announced the GPT-5.6 Sol rate cut on August 21, 2026, and made it effective the same day. The promotional rates are available at least through November 21, 2026. OpenAI has not said what pricing follows, so this should not be treated as a permanent cut.

The numbers below are standard short-context API rates per 1 million tokens. GPT-5.6 Sol longer-context tiers use different rates. Cache-write pricing follows OpenAI's 1.25x uncached-input multiplier.

Billing note: ChatGPT Business charges added seats immediately

Effective August 19, 2026, OpenAI changed when self-serve ChatGPT Business workspaces pay for seat changes.

Additional standard paid seats were previously charged on a later bill. They are now charged immediately on a prorated basis for the remaining billing period.

The total charge does not change because of this billing update. This is a billing-timing change, not a list-price change. Current Business list prices remain $25 per user per month on monthly billing or $20 per user per month billed annually, with a two-user minimum.

Admins of self-serve ChatGPT Business workspaces that change seat counts. The amount is unchanged, but the charge now happens when the paid seat is added.
